Maddow Blog | Campaign Recap from Wednesday, 9.4.24

Today we present you campaign news from all over the country.

* Recent fundraising for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has been so strong that the party and the Democratic National Committee are directing nearly $25 million to the party’s lower-ballot campaigns, hoping to boost Democratic candidates in state and federal elections.

* The latest CNN polls conducted by SSRS showed Harris leading Donald Trump by six points in Wisconsin, five points in Michigan, one point in Georgia, and one point in Nevada. The same set of data showed the two major party nominees tied in Pennsylvania, while the former president led by five points in Arizona. Larry Hogan, 46 percent to 41 percent. (Click on the link for information on the poll’s methodology and margins of error.)

* A group called Republican Voters Against Trump is launching an $11.5 million campaign with former Trump voters expressing support for Harris. The group’s ads will reportedly run in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nebraska’s Omaha district.

* As Trump struggles with his abortion rights message, Harris’ campaign is launching an abortion rights-themed bus tour not far from Mar-a-Lago.

* Politico reported this week that Republican officials are worried about their budget shortfall heading into the election season: “The leader of the Republicans’ largest super PAC in the House told donors last month that he needed $35 million more to compete with Democrats in the fall. Senate GOP campaign chairman Steve Daines used his prime-time speaking slot at the Republican convention to complain that Democrats’ massive spending was keeping him up at night. And his House GOP counterpart warned that their party’s challengers were trailing Democratic incumbents by a combined $37 million in late June.”

* And in a familiar dynamic, Dave Williams still claims to be chairman of the Colorado Republican Party after a weekend vote by his supporters. A week earlier, local party officials voted overwhelmingly to remove Williams from office. A lawsuit now seems inevitable.
