CHICAGO (CBS) — A major fire broke out Wednesday evening, sending massive amounts of smoke into a building on Chicago’s West Side, the second major fire in the city in two days.

Firefighters sprayed water from multiple angles at the building in the 2800 block of West Grand Avenue near the California intersection. Large amounts of smoke were visible from the air.

The Chicago Fire Department called a 3-11, which automatically dispatched 12 fire engines, four fire trucks and two tower ladders, among other equipment. In a post on X, the department said no injuries had been reported as of 7:20 p.m

The exact cause of the fire was unclear around 7 p.m

Both fires come as hot, dry conditions have smothered the Chicago area with temperatures in the high 80s and even well into the 90s.
