A 35-year-old man was shot to death outside an apartment complex in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen early Saturday, police said.
Officers responding to W. 49th St. near Ninth Ave. just before 3 a.m. called, found the victim sprawled on the ground.
He was shot twice in the chest and body but was conscious when first responders arrived, police said.
EMS rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he died a short time later. His name was not immediately released as police tracked down relatives.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately released and no arrests have been made, police said.
Police searched the area on Saturday for surveillance images that could identify the shooter.
According to NYPD statistics, detectives have seen a 66% increase in homicides this year in that part of Midtown Manhattan – protected by the Midtown North Precinct Police Department.
Since last Sunday, police have investigated five homicides in the area, two more than this time last year, officials said.
Homicides fell 4% citywide, from 387 last year to 370, police said.
