An Oakland man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stealing dirt bikes from a Santa Rosa dealership and then leading an officer on a chase on U.S. Highway 101, police said.
Michael Cisneros, 22, was arrested after an officer noticed a white van backing into a large window of the Factory Powersports dealership at 55 College Ave. around 2:55 a.m. Sunday, according to Santa Rosa police.
As the officer got closer to the business, the driver of the van later identified himself as Cisneros drove away and the officer turned on his emergency lights and attempted to pull him over, but the van did not stop and continued onto Highway 101 southbound, the police said. .
The officer noticed that the rear doors of the van were not fully closed and he saw two dirt bikes stacked on top of each other in the trunk of the vehicle. Cisneros eventually left the highway at Golf Course Drive in Rohnert Park and stopped, after which he was taken into custody without incident. According to police, no one else was in the van.
Investigators confirmed that the dirt bikes had been stolen from the dealership, with an 8-by-8-foot hole broken in the window used to extract the dirt bikes. Cisneros was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of commercial burglary, auto theft and eluding a peace officer, police said.
