A man is facing charges after breaking into an occupied home in Topsfield early Monday morning.
Philip Johnson is charged with breaking and entering during the night, trespassing, damaging property and disorderly conduct.
According to police, in the early hours of December 9, a Dover Hill Road resident reported someone was in their home. The police will not say whether anything was taken, but there are no reports of injuries.
Topsfield officers responded quickly and set up a perimeter, with mutual assistance from Wenham, Boxford and Ipswich Police.
At Topsfield’s request, Amesbury Police K9 Meatball responded to the scene and followed the suspect, identified as Johnson, behind a home on Hickory Lane, about a half-mile away, investigators said.
Johnson surrendered and was taken into custody.
He was arraigned at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday.
“The Topsfield Police Department cannot thank our mutual aid partners enough for their professionalism, which led to the quick and successful arrest of the suspect,” police wrote in a social media post.
