Man arrested for attacking women with a metal pole in Long Beach

After months of investigation, police have arrested a man who is believed to be wanted attack two women with a metal pole in Long Beach in January.

The first attack occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 4, when officers from the Long Beach Police Department were called to the area near 21st Street and Locust Avenue, according to a police statement at the time.

They say the woman, who was pushing a child in a stroller, was struck by the metal pole, causing injuries that sent her to the hospital.

The second attack happened just three hours later near 21st Street and Pine Avenue.

“The investigation reveals that a female adult victim walked outside and passed the suspect, who struck her with a metal object without warning,” an LBPD statement said.

In this case, the woman did not require hospitalization due to the injuries she suffered.

After the attacks, police issued a bulletin hoping someone from the public could help them locate the suspect. They were eventually able to identify the suspect as 27-year-old homeless man Job Jesse Villegas.

Investigators were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Villegas and he was taken into custody somewhere in Los Angeles on Monday, police said.

He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, trespassing and prior arrest warrants. He is being held on $710,000 bail.
