A man died after a shooting outside a Kansas City business Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to a shooting at a business near East 55th Street and Prospect Avenue just before midnight Wednesday, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
They found an unconscious man with apparent gunshot wounds in a vehicle in the business parking lot. Emergency medical services arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Detectives believe there was an interaction between an unknown number of people that led to the shooting. Police have not yet identified a suspect or taken anyone into custody.
The killing was the 69th homicide in Kansas City this year, including fatal police shootings, according to data obtained by The Star. By this time last year, there had been 84 murders.
