Man flown to hospital after being hit by a car that may have been making donuts in Brockton, police say

A young man was flown to a Boston hospital early Monday morning after he was struck by a car that may have been making donuts in a Brockton parking lot, authorities said.

“We like to come here just to relax,” Jovan Cruz said. “Just make friends and show each other’s cars. We don’t like to cause problems. It’s just a few people doing that, which makes it look bad for us.”

Officers responding to a report of a person being struck by a vehicle in the area of 696 Crescent Street just before 1:15 a.m. found a 20-year-old man seriously injured, a Brockton Police Department spokesperson said.

Cruz said he pulled in just as the suspect vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed.

“I just saw a lot of commotion, people yelling,” Cruz said. “It seemed like everyone was standing around a car. I think they helped get a man out from under the car.”

The victim, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Good Samaritan Medical Center and then airlifted to Boston for additional treatment.

Cruz said his understanding of what happened focused on a small number of vehicles doing “doughnuts” in the parking lot. One, he said, hit the young man and took off.

“Police are investigating whether drivers were performing donuts in the parking lot with their vehicles when one of the vehicles spun and struck the victim,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Video from the scene showed the parking lot cordoned off with yellow police tape and clothing on the ground.

Police say there are no suspects in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Brockton police.
