Man in custody after cutting court-ordered ankle monitor and fleeing to Mexico

A man accused of child abuse was taken into custody in Mexico on Monday after failing to appear in court in October, Gilbert police said.

Randall Todd Arrington, 61, allegedly fled to Mexico after failing to appear Oct. 21 at a settlement conference aimed at finding a resolution without a trial, according to court records and Gilbert police.

According to U.S. Marshals, Arrington cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor, sold his house and fled to Mexico with the money.

Mexican law enforcement took Arrington into custody on November 11. He was then turned over to the Gilbert Police Department.

“Of all the dangerous fugitives that U.S. Marshals arrest, those accused of crimes against minors are especially important to us and our communities,” said Van Bayless, the U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona.

Arrington faces 15 charges related to charges in Gilbert involving the sexual assault and battery of a child under the age of 15 between July 2000 and July 2009, according to court records. He was originally taken into custody in 2023, and court records show a grand jury indicted Arrington in October 2023.
