A man has been taken into custody after causing a disturbance in the middle of a street in Van Nuys, prompting the neighboring high school to be placed on lockdown Thursday morning as police got the situation under control.

At around 7:50 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a shirtless man at Gilmore Street and Kester Avenue wielding a baton and a bicycle chain. Police said the man struck vehicles.

The man did not comply with police commands and video shows him standing in the middle of the street with bat in hand as police work to safely take him into custody.

Van Nuys High School was briefly placed on lockdown as the situation was ongoing. The man was arrested just before 8:50 am
