Although two men were injured in the incident — one of them was pistol-whipped in the head and the other shot in the leg — Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said Sunday that their injuries were “non-life-threatening.”
Around 3 p.m. Friday, deputies were dispatched to El Llano Road in Española in response to reports of shots fired.
According to arrest warrant affidavits for Española residents Kenneth Vaughn, 32, and Richard Martinez, 49, the two victims, both 36, were walking along the side of the road when two men in a truck began following them and leading them off. accused of breaking into the street. vehicle.
Then, Mendoza said, “the suspects in the truck brandished a gun, threatened the victims, shot in the air, shot into the ground. As one of the victims ran, he was shot in the calf.”
Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital and received medical care.
The affidavits allege Vaughn was the shooter and Martinez was the driver.
A criminal complaint charges Vaughn with two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, two counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle, two counts of negligent use of a deadly weapon and one count of possession of a firearm. by a criminal.
