Man involved in standoff with Tarrant officers died by suicide: medical examiner

The death of a man who shot a Tarrant sheriff’s deputy in August has been ruled a suicide, according to online records from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The man, identified in court documents as 41-year-old Bo William Aurell, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the medical examiner.

Deputies were attempting to serve three misdemeanor warrants for Aurell on Aug. 7 when he shot Deputy Todd Tipton three times in a close-combat shootout, the Star-Telegram previously reported.

Aurell then barricaded himself in his home, leading to an hours-long SWAT standoff.

The standoff ended when Aurell falsely claimed to be holding hostages and police forced their way into the home, authorities said.

Authorities said at the time of the shooting that they were unsure whether Aurell committed suicide or was killed by law enforcement.

If you or a loved one are experiencing crisis or suicidal thoughts, help is available. Call or text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on 988.
