Man kills pregnant wife, stabs children

Sept. 5 – State police said Thursday that a Masonville man killed his pregnant wife and stabbed two children Wednesday night.

According to a press release, officers responded to a home on Houck Road in Masonville at approximately 11:29 p.m. for a reported domestic dispute.

Their investigation revealed that Drew J. Garnier, 32, had stabbed his pregnant wife, Samantha J. Garnier, 29, and their two children.

Samantha Garnier was found inside the home and received help from officers and sheriff’s deputies before medics arrived, the news release said. She was airlifted to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, where she later died from her injuries. One child was airlifted to Wilson Medical Center but was later transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. A second child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center. Both children are expected to survive.

Drew Garnier was arrested at the scene and taken to AO Fox Hospital for reasons not mentioned in the press release. He was charged with murder in the second degree, Class AI felony; and two counts of attempted murder in the second degree.

After his release from the hospital, he was processed at the state police headquarters in Sidney and taken to the Delaware Correctional Facility for arraignment. He was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.

Following an investigation, Drew J. Garnier, age 32, of Masonville, New York, has been charged with the crime of “AI” second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

State police received assistance at the scene from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Village of Sidney Police Department, Village of Walton Police Department, Village of Delhi Police Department, LifeNet, Walton Fire Department, AMR/Delaware County Ambulance, Trout Creek Fire Department, Sidney EMS and Ambulanz, the release said.

Group C Public Information Officer Aga Tinker said a press conference on the case will be held at the state police headquarters in Sydney at 1 p.m. on Friday.
