Man pleads guilty to tampering charges after grandfather’s body parts were found in Trotwood

The grandson of a man whose legs were found in Trotwood appeared in court on Wednesday.

Tygan Keiter took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to two counts of tampering with evidence, Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records show.

Two additional charges of tampering with evidence were dismissed.

As previously reported by News Center 7, Keiter Sr.’s legs were damaged. found in garbage bags at a home in Trotwood on April 22.

The remainder of Keiter Sr.’s remains. was later found in a Dayton storage unit belonging to his son, Edgar Keiter Jr.

Kettering Police Sergeant Vince Mason previously told News Center 7 that Tygan’s name frequently appeared during investigations.

“We began searching cell phones collected during the search warrant,” Mason said.

When Tygan voluntarily spoke to detectives, “he gave us a story that put him in the middle of it,” Mason said.

Tygan was the third person arrested in connection with Keiter Sr.’s death. He was arrested on July 18.

Keiter Sr.’s son, Edgar Keiter Jr., was arrested in May and formally charged with gross abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and theft. His trial will begin on January 27, 2025.

Edgar’s girlfriend, Amanda Reiff, was arrested in early July and charged with aiding and abetting tampering with evidence and aiding and abetting gross abuse of a corpse.

In the statement of facts, Tygan admitted that he went to Keiter Sr.’s home. had gone and seen him dead on the ground “with a knife through his chest.”

Tygan also admitted to sending text messages and making calls from Keiter Sr.’s phone.

Kettering police told News Center 7’s Mike Campbell that it appears that Keiter Sr.’s death. was a matter of money.

“He wanted to start a business, Grandpa wasn’t good at that… and Keiter Jr. said, ‘I’m going to talk to Grandpa and get this done,’” Mason said.

Tygan’s sentencing is scheduled for February 25.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records show Tygan was released from jail on his conditional self-recognizance.
