Man sentenced for allegedly firing gunshots at a car in Jamestown

Nov. 21—JAMESTOWN — A 22-year-old man from Valley City, North Dakota, who was arrested after allegedly shooting at a vehicle in September, was recently sentenced in Southeast District Court in Jamestown.

Mikah Alan Striefel pleaded guilty to criminal mischief, a class C misdemeanor later deemed a misdemeanor, false reports to law enforcement or other public safety officials, a class A misdemeanor, and discharging a firearm in the city, a class B misdemeanor crime.

Judge James Shockman sentenced Striefel to 64 days in the Stutsman County Correctional Center with credit for 64 days served. Shockman placed Striefel on three years of supervised probation and ordered him to pay a $400 criminal administrative fee, a $100 defense/facility administrative fee, $1,325 in restitution, and a $25 victim-witness fee.

A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by 360 days in jail and a $3,000 fine. A Class B misdemeanor is punishable by 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.

Striefel was charged with intentionally causing damage to another’s vehicle, estimated at more than $2,000 but less than $10,000, giving false information or a false report to a law enforcement officer when the information or report would lead to an investigation could distort or materially mislead a law. law enforcement officer and discharging a firearm in a city on September 11.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, an off-duty Jamestown police officer reported hearing gunshots in a southeast Jamestown neighborhood. Shortly after the shots were fired, additional reports of the incident were received and officers responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found an unoccupied vehicle parked in the 1400 block of 6th Avenue Southeast with bullet holes in it. The vehicle was identified as a late model Buick SUV and officers discovered multiple rounds of ammunition had been fired at the vehicle.

Surrounding homes where the Buick SUV was parked were occupied at the time of the shooting. No injuries were reported during the shooting.
