ST. PAUL, Minn. — A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a shooting near the Minnesota State Capitol on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

St. Paul police said the shooting happened near Rice Street and University Avenue West just before 5 p.m. Officers found an unconscious man with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the Regional Hospital.

According to police, the suspects fled the scene and a search of the area yielded no results. No one has been arrested.

“Investigators are attempting to determine the circumstances leading up to this shooting and are looking for anything that may lead them to who is responsible for this shooting,” the department said.

Police activity has shut down light rail trains between Robert Street and Hamline Avenue, Metro Transit said.
