Man shocked with Taser during traffic stop

June 20—TRAVERSE CITY — A man was shocked by a Taser after he pretended to be asleep and refused to comply when police ordered him out of his car.

The driver was stopped early Saturday morning by Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office deputies for alleged speeding and missing license plates at the McDonald’s in Chum’s Corners, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Officers said the driver did not roll down his window, “crossed his arms and leaned against the door,” removed the keys from the ignition, then climbed into the back seat and pretended to go to sleep, the affidavit said.

After he refused to come out, deputies called for help from Michigan State Police and broke the car window. Police said they had to drag the man out of the car window. When he refused to cooperate after being outside the vehicle, he was shocked with a Taser, the report said.

The man was arrested and booked into the Grand Traverse County Jail for operating under the influence of drugs, resisting and obstructing.
