Marathon, Teamsters reach pay deal at Detroit refinery

(Reuters) -Teamsters members working at Marathon Petroleum’s refinery in Detroit have voted to ratify a seven-year collective bargaining agreement, the company and union said on Sunday, three months after workers walked off the job.

“The process to safely welcome our employees back to the refinery is already underway,” the Findlay, Ohio-based company said.

More than 200 teamsters at the Marathon refinery in Detroit had called for the strike on September 4, after months of negotiations over pay and safety and mediation with the refinery had failed to produce results. Their previous contract expired in January this year.

Marathon representatives and Teamsters have had several bargaining sessions led by a federal mediator since workers went on strike.

The 140,000 barrel per day Detroit refinery is one of Marathon’s 13 refineries with a crude oil refining capacity of approximately 2.9 million barrels per day.
