Marcus Thuram appeals to French voters to reject the National Rally

Last Sunday, the French public was shocked when President Emmanuel Macron called early elections to take place on June 30 and July 7.

It was a decision that had a domino effect on football, as the French national team was not broadcast live on television for the first time in thirty years, as TF1 decided to postpone coverage of the friendly match against Canada to avoid political debates to send. and reactions to the president’s decision.

The France national team has generally stayed out of the political debate, with Benjamin Pavard (28) and Olivier Giroud (37) simply calling on the general public to vote. However, Marcus Thuram (26) made his position clear in a press conference beforehand Les Bleus’s opening match of the European Championship against Austria.

Thuram, a staunch advocate in the fight against racism, has appealed to French voters to reject the message of the National Rally (a far-right political party that has become the main opposition to Macron in the run-up to these elections).

Thuram has stated: “The situation is very, very serious. I found out [the elections] after the game against Canada. We were all a bit shocked in the locker room. This is the sad reality of our society today. Every day messages are broadcast on television to help this party (National Rally) get elected.

The attacker continued: “As a citizen, whether it is you or me, we must fight every day so that this does not happen again and that the National Rally does not come to power..”
