MARGATE CITY, NJ (CBS) – The mayor of Margate City, New Jersey, has apologized to Jason and Kylie Kelce after the Philadelphia power couple was verbally abused outside a restaurant on date night by a woman who was looking for a picture.
Margate City Mayor Michael Collins offered the Kelces a free dinner to make up for their experience.
“On behalf of the City of Margate, I would like to formally apologize to Jason and Kylie Kelce for the experience they had in Margate City over the holiday weekend,” Collins wrote in a statement on Facebook. “As a father with young children, I know better than anyone how important a date night with your wife is and I would like to offer a new date night with dinner for me.”
According to HughE Dillon, a contributing photographer for CBS News Philadelphia, the Kelces went to Steve and Cookie’s By the Bay in Margate City with another couple on Saturday evening. In the parking lot, a woman approached Kelce’s Telsa and banged on the window to get their attention, Dillon said.
Dillon reported that Jason and Kylie Kelce got out of the truck and the woman asked the two for a photo with her family. Jason Kelce refused, which Dillon said caused the woman to go “ballistic.”
Video of the incident was posted to Instagram by the Word to the Wise podcast and immediately went viral. In the video, Kylie Kelce is seen arguing with the woman, while Jason Kelce slowly steps back.
The Kelces are known for their… affection for Sea Isle City and were down the coast for Memorial Day weekend. The recently retired Philadelphia Eagles legend has done just that guest bartender at the Ocean Drive several times in his career for charity. Jason Kelce said Wednesday that he will return to guest bartending at the OD on June 26.
