NEW YORK — Leaders of Marymount Manhattan College and Northeastern University in Boston have agreed to pursue a merger.

The merger will take place in phases over the coming months, pending approval by state and federal regulators.

In a statement, MMC interim president Peter Naccarato said: “MMC and Northeastern are natural partners. The institutions reflect each other in many ways, including how we foster meaningful relationships with our communities and create opportunities for our students to benefit from our community’s resources. world-class cities to find an edge in career and life. We are very excited to make this connection based on our shared values.”

Will Marymount Manhattan College close?

Under the agreement, Marymount Manhattan College will become Northeastern University – New York City, and Northeastern will acquire all assets and liabilities of MMC.

The university says it plans to preserve the MMC campus on East 71st Street “for generations to come.”

How will Marymount Manhattan College students be affected by the school’s merger with Northeastern University?

Students enrolled at MMC and in good standing at the time of the merger are eligible for automatic enrollment at Northeastern. These students will not be required to pay additional tuition or fees other than expected annual cost increases.

All existing financial aid awards will be honored.

MMC’s courses will be incorporated into Northeastern’s curriculum, and students will transfer to Northeastern programs that align with their current course of study.

MMC says there will be “minimal changes” for students until the merger is completed.

How will the merger with Northeastern University impact Marymount Manhattan College faculty and staff?

The university says all full-time MMC faculty members will have a one-year contract with Northeastern when the merger occurs. After one year they can be considered for all available positions.
