Massachusetts man killed after crash with construction vehicle on I-95 in Groton

A Massachusetts man was killed Thursday when the vehicle he was driving veered off Interstate 95 in Groton and struck a construction vehicle.

Paul Robert Bigos, 37, of Dighton, Massachusetts, was driving a 2012 Subaru Impreza on I-95 North just before 9:50 p.m. when he veered off the left side of the highway between exits 88 and 89 and struck a 2020 Sennebogen 728e, according to the Connecticut State Police.

The construction vehicle, which is often used for tree removal, was empty and parked on the grass verge. According to state police, the construction area was not active at the time.

After the collision, the Subaru blocked the northbound lanes while Bigos was stuck, state police said. He was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.

The crash is still under investigation.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Trooper Timothy Wengloski at 860-848-6500.
