BOSTON – Massachusetts is sending aid to states such as Florida and North Carolina in the wake of the crisis Hurricane Helenevalue injury is estimated at billions.

Massachusetts Task Force 1, based in Beverly, is already on the ground in the South, rescuing people from rushing floodwaters and crumbling buildings. The task force consists of police officers, firefighters, engineers, rescue specialists and others. The task force initially sent 45 people to Florida to help, and a day later sent another 45 to North Carolina. Sixteen members were sent solely to assist in water rescue operations.

“They are still conducting water rescue and search operations,” said Thomas Gatzunis of Massachusetts Task Force 1. “They are checking structures that are clearly damaged and have not yet been cleared. So they will go through it systematically and make sure no one is there. in the building, good or not, and just make sure the buildings are cleared. We’ll just stay there as long as necessary.

Eversource utilities from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut have also begun the long drive to Virginia to help restore power. More than 2 million customers from Florida to Virginia have lost power.
