KINGSTON — A youth soccer league booth in Massachusetts was broken into and hundreds of dollars worth of food stolen, just weeks into the soccer season.
It happened at the Opachinski Complex on Pottle Street in Kingston, where Silver Lake Youth Football has its concession stand. Jackie Arena, the concessions manager, said someone smashed the glass windows of the building and their entire inventory of candy and snacks was stolen, along with homemade salads and some of their drinks. In total, the stolen inventory was worth between $800 and $900, according to Arena.
The stand currently relies on donations to help feed players during and after soccer practice. Arena said the community is shocked and disturbed by the theft.
“I feel completely violated because this is exactly what we’ve been doing for the past few weeks. We’re just making food and everyone says everything is great and it’s been fine until yesterday,” Arena said.
Silver Lake Youth Football is a nonprofit organization that provides a soccer program for more than 200 kids from Kingston, Plympton and Halifax. Arena said donations have poured in from small businesses and other local teams since the break-in.
