Mayor Gervais, three municipal councilors are on their way to being recalled, according to the provisional election results

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Preliminary results for a remember effort for the mayor of Oregon City of Gervais and many of his city council members are on a path to success.

Although the results are not yet final and are still listed as unofficial, these are the first results released on Marion County’s website Tuesday at 8:01 p.mof another update posted at 9:56 p.m., both with a “Yes” result of more than 50% for recalling Gervais Mayor Andrea Gilland and City Council members John Harvey, Michael Gregory and Robb Ladd.

Early results as of 8 p.m. showed the majority of votes in favor of recalling elected officials were tentatively between 58 and 59%, with 23% of eligible registered voters. The number only went up at the second 10 p.m. update, with 29% of eligible voters showing a result of 60% or more in favor of recalling each person.

Until all votes are fully counted and made official, the status of whether these elected officials have been formally recalled remains an open question.

This comes after a recall a year ago in which two councilors in Gervais resigned from less than 20% of eligible registered voters. Portland Stand reported. Councilwoman Pamela Foreman saw 54.64% of voters fight to recall her, while Councilman Micky Wagner saw 56.12% of voters give him the boot. Additionally, the council recently fired Police Chief Mark Chase in February after being placed on leave in October 2023.

Tuesday was election day for the recall vote, with the 8 p.m. vote count only being the first round. Election results will be updated repeatedly in the coming weeks, it said Marion County Clerks Office website. The final election results are expected to be published “Monday at 5 p.m., 27 days after Election Day,” i.e. Monday, July 15, 2024.
