CHP in Oakland issued a serious traffic alert early Friday evening after a “meat leak” — reportedly parts of chicken and beef that came from a truck — closed the northbound lanes near 29th Ave.

The warning was issued around 6:18 p.m. after traffic hazards on northbound I-880 south of 29th Ave. had closed several lanes. Initially, CHP said two lanes were closed, but a short time later all lanes except lane #4 were closed as crews attempted to clear the mess.

Photos shared on social media showed reddish mud on all northbound lanes of the highway.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternative routes to avoid the area. There is no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
