BOSTON – Members of the alternative band Jane’s Addiction were spotted fighting onstage during their performance in Boston on Friday night.

Fight captured on video

It happened during the band’s show at Leader Bank Pavilion. Video footage shows lead singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro shouting and confronting each other mid-song, shoving each other before Farrell punches Navarro. Another man then jumps between them, breaking up the fight. The concert ended soon after.

“There’s a throwback, I think, to a classic rock mentality of being a bad boy and stuff like that. It seems to be a bit of a dead end and this jogs people’s memories of it,” said one fan.

“I don’t see that at any other concert. It’s really bizarre, to be honest,” says Eoin O’Donnell, who was completely blown away by the video.

Video footage of the incident quickly spread on social media, with some fans speculating whether the band would break up.

Woman blames frustration

“Perry’s frustration grew night after night. He felt like the volume on stage was extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, wrote in an Instagram post Saturday morning.

She said her husband suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat and that “by the end of the song he was no longer singing, but screaming to be heard.” She said her husband later broke down and “cried endlessly.”

Jane’s Addiction, known for songs like “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing,” has been on tour for 15 years. Their next show, scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was canceled Saturday via social media.

“We would like to sincerely apologize to our fans for the events that occurred last night. As a result, we are canceling tomorrow night’s show in Bridgeport,” Jane’s Addiction said on Facebook.

The band said ticket sellers will issue refunds for Sunday’s show.

“I think when you buy a ticket to a Jane’s Addiction concert, you’re taking a big risk,” says Boston native Rich Wade.

WBZ-TV has reached out to concert promoter Live Nation for comment, but has not yet received a response.
