Men in court over €2.1 million cannabis seizure

Two men have appeared in court on drug charges after cannabis worth an estimated €2.1 million was seized in Dublin on Friday.

The suspects are Jaime Stalker of Liverpool Road, Liverpool and Niall Maher of Cherry Orchard Drive, Ballyfermot, Dublin.

The pair, both in their 30s, were brought before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on Saturday.

The charges relate to a package that arrived at Dublin Airport from Toronto, Canada.

A Detective Garda (Irish police officer) told the court that the arrests followed a joint operation between Gardaí and Irish Revenue.

The package was taken to an industrial estate in Dublin 10 where it was collected.

At that point the two men were arrested.

It later turned out that the package contained 105 kg (16th) of cannabis.

Mr Stalker did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until May 30.

Mr Maher was released on bail over the objection of gardaí and was also remanded in custody until May 30.
