Meridian firefighters graduate from the academy

May 26—Three Meridian firefighters were among 25 firefighter trainees who graduated Thursday from the state fire academy as members of Class 209.

Garrett Beard, Gavin Farmer and Dillon Williamson of the Meridian Fire Department successfully completed the seven-week course, which includes training in fire conduct and suppression, rescue, incident command, hazardous materials handling and other fire-related topics, according to a news release from the Mississippi State Fire Academy announced its graduation. The training meets the requirements for both state and national fire certification.

In a prepared statement, Kelly Elliott, executive director of the State Fire Academy, said the graduates can now use their new skills and training to serve their communities.

“We are confident that the immediate impact and positive difference these firefighters will make, not only within their departments but also in their communities, will be truly substantial,” he said.
