Messy commute on Monday in the Philadelphia region, with three chances of rain this week

After a cloudy and cold Sunday, the storm system we saw to the west is moving across the Delaware Valley. For most areas, including the city, the Shore and Delaware, rain will be the main event tonight, with some heavier showers during the early hours of the morning. Further north, enough cold air remains in the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos for things to start out as a wintry mix for a short time.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Poconos and the Lehigh Valley tonight until 9 a.m. Monday.

This system has a warm front that moves north overnight, causing temperatures to rise in the morning hours. What little ice and snow can be seen in northern areas and at high altitudes will turn to rain before dawn, washing away most traces of winter.

Reserve extra time for the Monday morning commute. Rain will continue for the rest of the day on Monday, but another system will increase the chance of rain again from Monday night into Tuesday morning. Here the showers remain on the lighter side.

High pressure may briefly touch in late Tuesday into early Wednesday, which looks to bring high temperatures into the low 60s Tuesday afternoon.

Our third system of the week arrives on Wednesday. The models are a bit mixed on the arrival time: it could be as early as Wednesday afternoon, but it is more likely to last until Wednesday evening, bringing rain through Thursday morning. While this looks like rain again for the city and suburbs, for the Poconos it could end up as a snow shower followed by another round of cold air. Next weekend looks set to bring in the coldest air of the season so far, with many areas struggling to get out of the 20s – for highs!
