Mets option Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse: Report

After Saturday’s 9-6 loss to the Astros, the Mets are selecting starting pitcher Tylor Megill for Triple-A Syracuse, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

According to DiComo, this move allows the Mets to fill Megill’s spot with a reliever – which they desperately need as the team continues to struggle with a bullpen short of players until Edwin Diaz returns from suspension.

The Mets may also remember Christian Scot or Jose Butto to have Megill start the rotation on his next turn.

Megill allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Astros.

“I thought Megill was OK,” Mets manager said Carlos Mendoza said after the game. “Showing the last few flashes, fastball had a good life. [He] threw some good splits. …They have good hitters and put together good at-bats. We couldn’t put them away today.”

In eight starts this season, Megill has a 2-4 record with an ERA of 5.08 and a WHIP of 1.44.
