NEW YORK — New York Mets pitcher Jorge López threw his glove into the seats behind the dugout after being ejected from the dugout Wednesday 10-3 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field.

López allowed a home run to Shohei Ohtani in the 8th inning before being thrown out by third base umpire Ramon De Jesus. Moments earlier, López appeared to be arguing with De Jesus over a check swing call.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called López’s actions “not acceptable” and said it would be addressed internally. López is expected to be named for assignment on Thursday.

Post-game reactions shock fans

Asked if he regrets throwing down his glove, López said: “No. I do not regret it. I think I’ve searched [like] the worst team in probably all of MLB.”

López Reportedly made it clear to reporters that he meant he felt like the worst teammate on the worst team. He has a 3.76 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched for the Mets this season.

“It definitely doesn’t look good,” Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor said of López throwing his glove. “If our manager says it’s unacceptable, it’s unacceptable. I hope he thinks differently tomorrow.”

The Mets have won just nine of their last 30 games after being swept by the Dodgers.

Mets injuries

Before the game, New York placed struggling closer Edwin Díaz on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement. First baseman Pete Alonso left the game after his hand was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first inning.

New York will host the Arizona Diamondbacks in a four-game series starting Thursday. The team will retire Darryl Strawberry’s No. 18 in a ceremony before Saturday’s game at 4:10 p.m.
