The project includes asbestos abatement and incidental demolition of outdated equipment at the former Piqua power plant, the spokesperson said.

The remediation will prepare the site for mixed-use commercial redevelopment, potentially including recreational, entertainment, residential or specialty manufacturing facilities, supporting employment and economic growth.

This is one of 61 new brownfield remediation projects in 33 counties in Ohio.

DeWine announced more than $58 million in state aid to help clean up and redevelop 61 hazardous brownfield sites in those counties.
