Night 2 of the Knockouts started on Tuesday The voice.
The hour-long episode highlighted two three-way battles of Team Gwen and Team Bublé, and revealed in a recap style that Team Reba’s winning singer – Katie O – will advance to the Playoffs. The episode concluded with an unexpected theft by coach Reba McEntire that surprised the rest of the coaches – and the lucky ones Vote hopeful.
Knockout battle of the episode
Coach Gwen Stefani brought together singers Felsmere, Gabrielle Zabosky and Kay Sibal for their knockout battle – and the result was nothing short of magic. It made sense for the three singers to face each other, because they were closest in terms of genre and singing style.
For their knockout performances, they all chose songs from female powerhouses: Felsmere chose Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man,” Zabosky went with Miley Cyrus’ “Used to Be Young” and Sibal showed off her piano skills with “One Last Time ‘ by Ariana Grande.
Michael Bublé praised Sibal’s “beautiful,” “tender” cover of the Grande ballad, while Snoop Dogg said he felt the “power of her singing.” Bublé was a fan of Felsmere’s choreography during her performance, but he, Snoop and McEntire ultimately preferred Zabosky’s version of the Cyrus song.
Stefani was impressed with Felsmere’s performance and told her it was the best she had seen during her stay The voice. The No Doubt singer was moved by Sibal’s vulnerability, calling it her “favorite part of Kay,” and saying Zabosky’s performance was “perfect.” Stefani chose to move on with Zabosky because she had the whole package: “She has a quirky personality, she’s humble, she’s someone I can help grow.”
An unexpected theft
Team Bublé’s knockout battle featured one of the most distinctive line-ups of the season. Old-school jazz crooner Edward Preble took on singer-songwriter Shye and R&B singer J. Paul, creating such a compelling match that whoever won might have done so based more on personal preference than talent.
Ultimately, Bublé named Shye the winner of the three-way showdown after her cover of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.” “She may not only be one of my favorite voices of the season, but she may be one of my favorite voices of all time,” he declared.
As Paul’s journey continues The voice ended with the knockouts, Preble was given a second chance after McEntire unexpectedly used her steal, shocking the 19-year-old and officially welcoming him to Team Reba.
“I loved Edward from the very beginning, and he’s a character,” the country star explained. “There aren’t many people who dabble in that genre of music, but when they do, they are passionate about it and you see that with Edward.”
A look ahead to next week
