(CBS DETROIT) – The New York Times recently published a list of the 50 best restaurants in the US for 2024, and one restaurant in Michigan was on it.
The restaurant selected for the list is Noori Pocha, a retro Korean gastropub in Clawson. Open since August 2023, it is located at 1 S. Main St.
Diners can expect a fun atmosphere “surrounded by the facades of a bus station and a market,” with K-pop music blaring from the speakers, according to Sara Bonisteel, who covered the restaurant for the newspaper. There’s a disco ball, lights and a giant screen showing the streets of Korea.
Owner In Yeol Kwon also runs Noori Chicken, the Korean fried chicken chain attached to the restaurant. Bonisteel says Noori Pocha offers a completely different experience for diners, with a menu created by Kwon’s sister Nali and chef Bak Sanghwan.
Dishes served at the restaurant include bulgogi, chicken buldake, jokbal, kimchi fried rice, honghap tang and corn cheese. One of the main features is the fried chicken wings, which can be ordered with various sauce options, including “magic sprinkle”, a topping of cheese powder.
While Noori Pocha was the only Michigan restaurant to make the list, several other Midwestern restaurants were also named.
Two restaurants in Minnesota were on the list, including Oro by Nixta, a Mexican restaurant, and Vinai, a Hmong eatery.
In addition, Asador Bastian, a steakhouse in Chicagowas named one of the 50 best restaurants.
