(CBS DETROIT) – A Clinton Township man is accused of impersonating a fire chief and trying to intervene in two investigations.

Macomb County prosecutors said Jason Edward Barnes, 47, tried to gain entry May 5 to a home where a death investigation was underway. On May 28, he went to an investigation in gear and with a badge.

Barnes was charged in 41B District Court with impersonation of a firefighter/medical personnel and unlawful use of fire decals/logos for the May 5 incident. He is also charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and impersonating a firefighter/emergency medical technician for the May 28 incident.

He received a $250,000 cash bond.

“We take the impersonation of first responders very seriously because it undermines the trust and safety of our community. These actions not only disrupt investigations, but can also contaminate crime scenes and pose a risk to public safety,” said District Attorney Peter Lucido of Macomb County. in a statement.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for July 2.
