(CBS-DETROIT) – A Michigan man was arrested after he was caught drunk driving through the backyards of homes in Oakland County, police said.

On June 4 at 6:35 p.m., Troy officers responded to the 1500 block of Hamlet after receiving a report of the incident.

The caller told police the man used a home’s driveway to enter the backyard behind the homes, damaging lawns, a tree and an underground drainpipe as he drove through.

Officers found the suspect vehicle parked in the roadway with the driver, identified as a 63-year-old Troy man, standing outside the vehicle.

They noticed that the man had difficulty with his balance, that his speech was slurred and that he had an odor of intoxicants coming from him.

Officers had him perform field sobriety assessments, which he did poorly, and he took a preliminary breath test with a result of 0.20%.

The 63-year-old was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lockup Facility. According to police, he was read his rights and refused a breath test.

A search warrant was issued to have his blood drawn.

The man was charged with driving under the influence (third offense) and driving while his license was suspended (second offense).
