(CBS DETROIT) — Michigan State Police are warning motorists of slick roads and to use caution as snow showers hit Metro Detroit on Friday

According to the National Weather Service, lake effect snow showers are expected to continue throughout the day with a wind chill of around 20 degrees. Several highways are affected by snow showers. In response, the Michigan Department of Transportation closed Interstate 696 westbound at Orchard Lake to salt the roads.”

The highway has now reopened.

MSP advises drivers to slow to a speed that allows them to maintain control of their vehicle and to increase the distance between vehicles in case they lose control.

“We’re getting just enough snow to draw attention to drivers’ risky driving behavior. Hopefully we can act like we’ve been there before,” MSP said in a post on X.
