(CBS DETROIT) – A 37-year-old Michigan woman and her dog died in a house fire Sunday, authorities said.
Authorities received a call from an acquaintance of Lakeisha Arnae Moton of Pontiac, who said she got no answer when she tried to contact Moton.
Oakland County deputies and Waterford firefighters responded to Moton’s home in the 600 block of Raskob just after 1 p.m.
When they arrived, they found a fresh layer of soot on the house and found Moton lying unconscious in the hallway of the one-story home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities also say the fire likely started in the home’s kitchen. A dog that was in a kennel in the home at the time of the fire also died.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was smoke inhalation and the cause of death was accidental.
