Mill Valley residents are preparing in advance for the storm that will hit the North Bay.

Marcus Bartholomew has seen his fair share of storm preparations in the more than twenty years he has worked here at Goodman Building Supply in Mill Valley.

“We also have vacuums in case you need to get water out as quickly as possible, and we also have our wet areas, our roofing stuff,” Bartholomew said.

He said they’ve seen a lot of people come in to pick up items over the past few days.

“It’s kind of amazing. I’m surprised that more people are coming to prepare for it before it comes, which is certainly a smart idea, you know, instead of waiting until later,” Bartholomew said.

He said everything from tarps to rain boots and caulk are flying off the shelves.

This week’s storm will be the first major storm of the rainy season. In Mill Valley, he says homeowners not only have to worry about the rain and wind, but also the flood.

“We have some pumps and sandbag dams in the plumbing department that you can use if water comes in when the tide is high because it should also be king tide,” Bartholomew said.

Marin County also offers several sandbag stations for people to stock up.

The Southern Marin Fire District is warning people to have sandbags on hand if they have experienced flooding during previous storms.

He said their store will remain open during the storm.

They are doing their best to prepare for whatever comes and expect to receive another shipment of supplies later this week.

“We just have to wait and order as much as we can as far as rain goes. That’s about all we can do,” Bartholomew said.
