MINNEAPOLIS — As the season comes to a close, you could call it the summer of delays. We’ve seen rain delays at the State Fair, delays for the Twins, and traffic delays too.
These delays are costing many people a lot of money. Even though the ground is now dry, the costly damage has already been done.
Lori Reese’s team at WonderWoman Construction is currently working on a new building in northeast Minneapolis.
“Almost every day we’re here there’s something challenging,” Reese said.
This summer, Reese says she faced her biggest challenge in 10 years.
Rainfall was significantly above average every month, with rain falling on 51 of the 92 days.
“It’s really hard to say to the customer, ‘Here’s your schedule. No, here’s your schedule.’ We’re a week behind, now we’re two weeks behind, now we’re two months behind,” Reese said.
She is far from alone. Rain has clouded places all over the Twin Cities.
Kraus-Anderson does large commercial projects and says they’ve been harvesting rainwater most of the summer and are now working hard to catch up.
At Highland Park Senior High School, the football field is closed due to rain and construction.
Builders are hoping for a drier autumn, because the colder and darker it gets, the longer it will take to dry out.
