A wildfire burned through 55 acres and threatened buildings in Riverside County’s Jurupa Valley amid a red flag warning due to the increased risk of wildfires.
According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the fire was reported near Mission Boulevard and Crestmore Road at 4:03 p.m., with flames moving at a moderate speed in heavy fuels.
As of 5 p.m., fire officials said it was an estimated 25 acres and 0% contained.
The National Weather Service announced this earlier a red flag warning for much of the Inland Empire, with particularly dry, windy conditions increasing the risk of wildfires breaking out and spreading rapidly. Santa Ana winds swept through the region on Friday.
Forecasters said valleys in San Bernardino and Riverside counties are at particularly high risk, with winds expected to reach 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 55 miles per hour.
