Former lottery pick Davion Mitchell was a solid role player during his three-year career in Sacramento before being traded to the Toronto Raptors on June 27.

The 25-year-old guard was a key defender for the Kings and while his role diminished after a strong debut season, he is grateful for the experience in Sactown.

Mitchell posted a statement on Instagram on Wednesday thanking the Kings organization and its fans for their support.

The message reads: “To the great city of Sacramento and all the wonderful fans, thank you.

“From the moment I was called up, you welcomed me with open arms and supported me through all the highs and lows. To my teammates, coaches, trainers and staff, thank you for everything. These memories we have made are unforgettable and I have loved growing together on and off the field.

“Sacramento, you believed in me from the beginning and you will always have a special place in my heart. It was an honor to shake the Kings on my chest.

“I look forward to the next chapter, but I will never forget where it all began.”

During his time with the Kings, Mitchell averaged 7.4 points and 2.8 assists in 20.4 minutes per game while shooting 32.7 percent from 3-point range. He often got key defensive matchups, as his on-ball ability was one of his main attributes following a national championship-winning season at Baylor.

Mitchell was traded to Toronto along with forward Sasha Vezenkov and the 45th pick in last week’s NBA Draft for sixth-year winger Jalen McDaniels.

With his playing time in the backcourt diminishing alongside Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk, Mitchell will look for more opportunities on the young Raptors roster.

Whatever his future role, he will undoubtedly be back in Sacramento as a visitor next season.
