(CBS-DETROIT) — A Monroe County Intermediate School District employee is in custody after a home invasion and disturbance on the district’s main campus.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says school district personnel alerted Sergeant Jason Miller to a man acting erratically outside the main campus building in Monroe Township on Friday afternoon.
The school district says the campus was placed on lockdown as soon as Miller was notified of the situation.
Miller spoke with the man and noticed gestures and movements that led him to believe the man may be armed. Authorities say Miller called 911, prompting more county authorities to respond to the area.
The sergeant followed the man, who walked off school grounds and into an unlocked home on the 1100 block of South Raisinville Road. There were two women and a man in the home.
The sheriff’s office says the man then barricaded himself in a bedroom with one of the women. Officers negotiated with the man inside the home and eventually forced entry into the bedroom, resulting in him being taken into custody.
One of the women was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
According to the school district, the man did not have a weapon on him or in his vehicle.
The authorities are investigating. The county is asking anyone with information about the incident to call the detective bureau at 734-240-7530.
