Monrovia home crushed by fallen tree is for sale for nearly $500,000

A Monrovia home that was flattened by a giant pine tree in May is now for sale for nearly half a million dollars.

According to realtor Kevin Wheeler, the one-bedroom, one-bathroom bungalow is getting plenty of sun now that the tree is gone.

“Some people ask if I’m embarrassed to put a house in disrepair on the market. As my UCLA TV professor Jerry Katzman (he ran William Morris) always told us, ‘Sell it, don’t smell it,'” Wheeler said. The 6,450-square-foot home is listed for $499,999.

There were two people and two dogs inside at the time the tree crash of may 5 happened. The huge tree, whose trunk was completely ripped out of the ground, choked the house and crushed a van that was parked in the driveway of the house. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The plumbing in the house is still working, but the electricity has been shut off. Normally, an inspection is required for demolition work on properties older than 50 years, but because this house was destroyed by force majeure, an inspection is not necessary, Wheeler said.
