This is the earliest Category 5 Atlantic hurricane on record. The previous record was Hurricane Emily on July 17, 2005, which developed as a Category 5 storm with winds of 160 mph.

Only a handful of hurricanes in the Eastern Caribbean have had a storm of this intensity. Beryl is indeed in elite company:

Interests elsewhere in the Cayman Islands and the rest of the northwestern Caribbean should continue to monitor Beryl’s progress. Additional warnings or cautions may be required throughout the day on Tuesday.

NOTE: A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area. A warning is typically issued 36 hours before the first tropical storm force winds are expected, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.
