In Brussels, 32,000 people took to the streets to call for a ceasefire in the Middle East, police reports said on Sunday.
The demonstrators called for, among other things, an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all prisoners, the protection of civilians and an end to illegal Jewish settlements in Palestinian areas.
“The massacres in Lebanon and the regional escalation must be stopped,” organizers said.
The demonstrators marched from the Belgian capital’s North Station to the European Quarter.
One of their demands was that the next Belgian government take the initiative to impose a comprehensive international military embargo.
A new government is currently being formed in Belgium after elections in early June.
