The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District will be spraying pesticides in an area of Martinez on Friday evening due to high mosquito counts and the discovery of West Nile virus there.

The district said spraying will take place between sunset (approximately 7:50 p.m.) and 11 p.m. in an area bordered by the San Joaquin River to the north, Pacheco Boulevard to the south, Pacheco Creek to the east and Embarcadero Street to the west.

According to the vector control district, the pesticide is sprayed in ultra-small quantities by truck.
