A mother has a message for others after she says her son was killed by domestic violence.
On Friday evening, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police confirmed they had found the remains of 21-year-old Sam Haugh, who was reported missing earlier this month.

Haugh had just moved to Charlotte in April to be with his boyfriend Michael Olarte.
On Tuesday, police found Haugh’s remains in a wooded area of Mecklenburg County. After the autopsy, the medical examiner said Haugh had been shot and ruled his death a homicide.
Haugh’s mother believes her son is yet another victim of domestic violence and is warning other families.
“It would be wise for everyone to be aware that this can be a problem in any relationship, and if someone shows signs of dominance early in the relationship, it is a serious warning sign that everyone around that person should be aware of. should be aware,” Jennifer Haugh told veteran crime reporter Glenn Counts.
His family reported him missing on May 5, the same day Olarte’s body was found. Police say he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Detectives believe Olarte hurt Haugh before dumping his body in the woods.
She went on to say that she believes her son may have been manipulated by his friend.
“I think this person has taken financial control of Sam,” Haugh said, “yeah, it disgusts me, to be honest, and you know it’s just part of the scheme of things. This was not someone who cared about himself or others.”
But Haugh says she’s grateful she won’t have to go through a trial.
