Mother of girls stabbed at Braintree theater says suspect laughed during attack

The AMC Braintree 10 cinema was open again on Sunday after four children were stabbed the night before. The suspect, 26-year-old Jared Ravizza, was later arrested on Cape Cod and is connected to a death investigation in Connecticut and the stabbing of two McDonald’s employees in Plymouth on the same day.

Lisa Dembowski said her three daughters and a friend were watching the movie “If” when they were attacked.

“Shaped up, they’re physically fine I think, kids are resilient, but I think they’re terrified,” Dembowski said.

She said the four children were the only ones in the theater when the suspect came up behind them. Dembowski said her oldest daughter was leaning forward when she was stabbed.

“He grabbed her in the back and then my other daughter at the top of the chest and then my last daughter over her arm, laughing the whole time, then grabbed their friend and ran,” she said.

Dembowski said the girls tried to chase the suspect but stopped to ask employees for help.

“AMC didn’t believe them, didn’t actually do anything and they had to call the police themselves,” she says.

Dembowski said her three daughters were taken to Boston Medical Center to be evaluated by a trauma team. They are now recovering at home.

“They never want to go to the movies again. I think the two youngest are just handling it a little better, the older one is very protective of them,” she said. She had to protect them and deal with everything and call the police and call us and do everything that adults should do.”

Dembowski said her children do not know the suspect or why he allegedly carried out this violent attack.

“I hope he gets what he deserves,” she said, “I understand mental health. I am a counselor. I understand. I think he’s a pretty sick person to harm children.”

Boston 25 has contacted AMC multiple times to ask why they allegedly called the police and what their security protocol is for allowing people into a theater. They haven’t responded.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said Sunday that Ravizza is facing charges of assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly attacked two employees at a McDonald’s in Plymouth an hour ago. after driving away from Braintree AMC.

The district attorney’s office says surveillance footage shows Ravizza reaching through the McDonald’s drive-thru window at the Route 3 rest area and stabbing a 28-year-old male employee with a large knife. Officials say Ravizza then parked his black Porsche, entered the McDonald’s and stabbed a second employee, a 21-year-old woman. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Ravizza then fled the square, with the Porsche eventually ending up in a fiery crash on Cotuit Road in Sandwich, where he was taken into custody.
